The Cause

The Big Dummy Project, I hope, will be focal point for some of the issues that we face in this country, and a good place to find a reason to support the efforts of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

I’m no expert, but I look at it in this simple way. There are two kinds of people suffering from diabetes.

The first kind (although I’m referring to Type-2), made up of a rapidly growing number of Americans, are those who became diabetic through choices in behavior. In some cases, the choices were not those of the victim, but maybe of parents, or the result of a lack of information, or by simply following the crowd to a place where the body can longer control its own blood glucose levels. I fall into this category, and I have learned a great deal about how to manage the disease in this form. I hope that by sharing information, I can help people who are either already dealing with Type-2 diabetes, or are heading in that direction.

The second kind (Type-1) are those who are effectively born with diabetes. It may not show up immediately, but they really could not have avoided the onset of the disease. By supporting the efforts of the JDRF, I hope to bring attention to the work they are doing to combat the disease, and to help raise money to find a cure for those who were born with it, for those who have no choice but to manage the disease and to wait for a cure.

With the startling rise in diabetes in America*, it’s a safe bet that someone you know, maybe someone in your family, is struggling with diabetes. Please follow the links to learn more, and please consider donating to the cause of finding a cure.

Best to you,

Jim

* I realize that America is not the only place where people struggle with diabetes, but it’s also pretty clear that we in America are doing a very poor job of building lives that avoid diabetes. It’s not a simple problem in that sense. Odds are that a huge number of aspects of the American lifestyle play into the rapid spread of Type-2 diabetes, and that’s something that I intend to explore in the course of this project. Please register and share your own opinions on the matter. Thank you.
